Dialogue Institute staff members challenged a roomful of corporate managers and support staff to recognize religious difference as a diversity issue in a December 1 training seminar at the Philadelphia offices of PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP. The program was offered as part of PWC Philadelphia’s “Inspire Inclusion” initiative, and marked the Dialogue Institute’s move into a new arena of dialogue training.

Corporate offices around the US are marked by increasing religious diversity, while varied cultural and religious contexts shape local practices for businesses operating in a global environment. The Dialogue Institute now offers the “Understanding Religion” seminar to companies seeking to address this new corporate reality creatively and proactively.

At the PWC event, Dr. Racelle Weiman presented findings about religious diversity from the recent Pew Forum report on Attitudes in the U.S. Religious Landscape.

Dr. Julia Sheetz-Willard spoke about the special significance of the Philadelphia business environment, embraced as it is in a historical context of advocacy for religious liberty and tolerance. Dr. Leonard Swidler set the wider religious and ethical framework of global business. Together with Dialogue Associate Achmad Munjid, they responded as a panel to specific questions about religious practices and communities.

Through case studies drawn from the news and from actual corporate communications, Dialogue Institute staff led participants in brainstorming strategies for respectful appreciation of religious difference in the local workplace and the global community.
